In two days I will be working on the big installation of my solo show at Mansfield University: Sticks and Stones and Bits of Bone. There are so many details. I have packed the majority of the work but I am awaiting the last piece via an overnight shipment from California. I have my metal prints produced there and it is always nerve wracking awaiting their arrival. The one I am awaiting was damaged in the shipment that came on Monday. I'm hoping the new one is perfect. Loading the car for the trip will be my project tomorrow. It's like a giant puzzle to fit an entire show of 25 pieces into my small SUV. I will also be assembling the ever important kit of small tools and supplies that I anticipate needing to do the installation. I picked up the vinyl wall lettering today. The wall tags are ready to go and hopefully I haven't forgotten anything important.
The piece on the left, From Once Broken © 2011, is in this show. This is one of my favorite pieces, perhaps because to me it is a piece that represents hope. We've all been "broken" from time to time in our journey through this world. However, as this image suggests, if we start anew from our brokenness, we can grow our way back to a fresh start.
The work in Sticks and Stones and Bits of Bone is work that examines the human experience. I have taken time to think about our common experiences in this life and have represented them through still life imagery. The show runs from August 20th - September 22nd and is in the Loomis Gallery at Mansfield University. It is quite an honor to have a show there as for me it will be a true homecoming to my alma mater. The opening is on August 30th from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. I'll be doing a gallery talk at 5:30. I hope you can come and enjoy what promises to be an interesting evening.
