Artist Statement

My work represents the alchemy of art, science and technology, a practice that makes complete and perfect sense to my sensibilities and strengths.  Evolving forward from early printmaking, drawing and painting, my process reflects a detail-oriented attention to structure, light, shadow and depth.

This new medium, Scanography, is my muse.  Fascinated with this method of image capture, I assemble my subjects and paint them with light and color. The work I do is photographic in nature, but taps into a range of artistic skills.

Art becomes a powerful allegory to tell universally human stories. I isolate natural objects from their natural environs. Like a surgeon or scientist, I have dissected and connected specimens and objects to suit my conceptual intentions -- cutting, tearing, bending, and revealing places and ideas that run beneath the surface. Delving deeply into subjects of struggle, heroism, spirituality and emotion, I represent human experience through still life.  Each image I create, seeks to capture that instant of revelation or understanding in the life journey, as it echoes the voice and spirit of a collective humanity.
